Hello! Let me introduce myself.
My interest in photography really began with a dog.
Nellie was my German Shepherd, and when we lived at the beach I bought my first decent camera because I wanted to take photographs that captured more than just what she looked like. I wanted that perfect shot that showed her enthusiasm and energy, but also the loyal, devoted side of her character.
Somewhere along the way, trying to capture Nellie turned into a love of photography itself. I discovered how much I enjoyed looking for those little moments that say something about a person, an animal or a place — an expression, a connection, beautiful light, or simply something that makes me stop and look.
I also discovered that photography can change the way you see the world. There are times when it can be all too easy to see only the awful things happening around us. Picking up a camera makes me look a little more closely. It reminds me to notice the beauty that is still there — in light, nature, animals, people and the small, ordinary moments we might otherwise walk straight past.
One of the things I hadn’t expected when I first picked up a camera was just how many wonderful people I would meet along the way. Photography has taken me to places I might never have gone, started conversations I might never have had, and introduced me to people and stories I would otherwise have missed.
These days my subjects have expanded considerably, although animals — particularly horses and dogs — still have a habit of finding their way in front of my camera. I enjoy photographing people, pets and places, and I’m drawn both to images that capture natural, genuine moments and to the creativity of studio work, where light can be shaped to bring out something a little more polished and refined.
For me, photography is about noticing, capturing character and telling a little piece of a story. This website is a collection of those moments; people, pets, places and stories that have caught my eye along the way.
